What is Cilest?
Cilest is a combined hormonal contraceptive pill, also known as “the Pill”. It is an effective method to prevent pregnancy, but it has other benefits for your health, as well. Cilest contains two types of female sex hormones, namely estrogen, and progestogen. Because its estrogen content is very low, this drug is considered a micro-pill. In July 2019, Cilest has been discontinued by the manufacturer Janssen. However, you can order a follow-up prescription for Cilique or Lizinna. To explain, they contain the same active ingredients, in the same dosage. Alpha Medicines can help you make this transition easier by reordering online.
Cilest uses and available dosage
You may use Cliest as a safe contraceptive method. Apart from preventing you to get pregnant, the micro-pill has the following uses and benefits:
- Improves painful menstruation
- It makes your period lighter and regular
- Helps with pre-menstrual symptoms
- Improves your overall ovarian health
Cilest contains hormones in 35 micrograms doses, respectively 250 micrograms – the same as Lizinna pills, for instance. After you finish your current pack of Cliest, discuss with your doctor about switching to a similar, equally safe contraceptive. Please see our available range of birth control pills for dosage and cost differences.
How does Cilest work?
The dose of hormones present in the pill works by deceiving your body into thinking that ovulation has already happened. As a result, Cilest stops ovulation and prevents pregnancy. Moreover, the contraceptive method also results in regular, lighter, and less painful and more menstrual bleeding. This means it is sometimes prescribed for women who have problems with, particularly heavy, painful or irregular periods.
How to take Cilest
Take a micro-pill once a day, with a glass of water. Do not chew the pill or let it dissolve on your tongue. Take it at the same time of the day. Continue the treatment for 21 days and then take a seven-day break, when your period comes. Typically, the next step after the break or inactive pills is to get a refill and start a new pack. However, since Cilest has been discontinued, talk to a licensed prescribing physician and switch to another product. At Alpha Medicines, we can make this transition easier!
